The hid kits do not work now.As is known to us that it will be very dangerous if we drive a car without hid kits! So what should I do to solve this problem? It seems that the book that I am reading now can not help me.Luckily,I can ask Alex for help.Alex is my friend and he is skillful in repairing cars.

Frocks and shocks: the best and the worst

Fashion designer Ben de Lisi knew he was an Oscar winner hours before the first award was presented. He went to sleep at 9.30pm, setting the alarm for just after midnight, when he got up to watch Kate Winslet walk the red carpet in one of his designs, a scarlet sheath with a garland of handmade silk flowers across one shoulder. “I turned on the TV, saw that she looked beautiful, took a big sigh of relief, called my mother in New York, and then went back to bed for a few hours.”

Glamorous and unfussy with a simple hairstyle and diamond stud earrings, Winslet looked every inch the screen goddess, a coup for de Lisi, a US born designer based in London.

It was also a great night for Giorgio Armani, with three of the night’s best dressed actresses. Helen Mirren looked radiant in an ivory, shawl-collared satin bodice and sequin net skirt, Maggie Smith looked elegant in black, and Julia Roberts thoroughly modern in a slinky number and simple ponytail.

Classic styles and muted colours dominated. Judi Dench swapped her trademark ethnic-styled outfits for a black sleeveless beaded evening gown with a matching coat, by Escada. Nicole Kidman wore pale pink ruffles - not a look I’d recommend you try at home, but on Kidman’s elegant frame (and made by Chanel couture) it was gorgeous.

Adventurous styles are notoriously difficult to pull off at the Oscars. One of the few who succeeded was Cameron Diaz, in a dazzling floral silk kimono style gown by Emanuel Ungaro. Christian Dior had announced that Diaz would be wearing a pink Dior dress. Delighted Ungaro spokesperson Carra Sutherland said: “You never know for sure until the last minute.”

Oscar night wouldn’t be the same without a few fashion faux pas. Halle Berry gave us plenty to cringe about in an Elie Saab dress with gaudy embroidered net bodice and a huge taffeta skirt. Gwyneth Paltrow came a cropper in a tacky transparent black vest by Alexander McQueen. Jennifer Lopez looked gorgeous in a blush pink Versace hour-glass dress, but ruined the effect with a hairstyle that brought to mind Diaz’s “hair gel” scene in There’s Something About Mary. But Sally Kirkland was a shoo-in for worst frock with a Julia Gerard dress that looked like every woman’s caught-in-the-knickers nightmare.

And the Winner is … New York Dishes Out Fashion Honours

New York may have “grown spiritually”, according to Rudy Giuliani, since September 11, but some old habits die hard. The annual Council of Fashion Designers of America awards, the oscars of the fashion world, took place amid the inevitable glitz - despite being held at the New York public library.

Narciso Rodriguez, best known as the designer of the late Carolyn Bessette’s wedding dress to John F Kennedy Jr, won womenswear designer of the year, beating off the likes of Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs. Lauren missed out again in the menswear category, this time to Jacobs for his recently launched eponymous menswear.

Horn-handled bags and platform sandals were the order of the day in the accessories category, when Tom Ford for Yves Saint Laurent won best accessory designer of the year. Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld and American Vogue’s Grace Coddington won lifetime achievement awards.

As is always the case with celebrity awards, there was some joy to be had in the unusual pairing of presenters with recipients. Alan Rickman was the unexpected distributor for best menswear award to Jacobs and David Bowie did the honours for Slimane.

The CFDA prides itself on honouring “originality and leadership in American fashion”. Yet as some commentators have pointed out, the awards turned out to be more of an international affair: neither of the recipients for the lifetime achievement award is American (Coddington is British and Lagerfeld is German). The New York Times sniffed that the ceremony “was not convincing evidence of America’s current fashion dominance”.

The newly created fashion icon award went to Winston Churchill’s goddaughter and American socialite CZ Guest, feted as “the greatest beauty of her time” by Time magazine - in 1962.

If the present is not looking too good, fashion is always good at slipping on its sentimental spectacles.
