There was no shortage of icons in the world of fashion in the seventies. There was always someone on the scene ready to introduce the world to a whole new fashion trend and to make it the it thing to try. We give you an overview of who we think were five of the biggest icons in the world of the fashion.
Jerry Hall
Sure she became more famous for her long term relationship with Mick Jagger, but the fact remains that American model and actress, Jerry Hall was a great inspiration in the world of fashion. Discovered at the French Riviera, she belonged to Texas and started her fashion career at the tender age of fashion becoming an immediate favorite and charging an astronomical USD 1000 a day. She was a regular on the Studio 54 scene and has credited her mother for her love for fashion.
Anjelica Huston
Anjelica Huston was famous for wearing flowing materials that gave her a certain feline quality. With her dark hair and sultry charcoal lined eyes, she became the it girl in the seventies after having been a staple on the catwalks since the late sixties when she landed her first cover at the tender age of sixteen. Of course she soon became Hollywood royalty with her relationship with Jack Nicholson becoming the talk of tinsel town. Her style statement was moody and that was probably why she was the darling of the fashion world.
Farrah Fawcett
Before the Rachel and Jennifer Aniston became household names, Farrah Fawcett ruled the world of hairstyles. She was the original Charlie’s Angel and made feathered hair, flared trousers, and red swimsuits a fashion must. She had many beauty secrets which included using petroleum jelly to make her eyelashes look shinier than they already were. With her blonde feathered hair cut which thousands of women all over the world copied, she became the fashion icon to emulate in the seventies.
Liza Minnelli
This star of the seventies was born to be a fashion icon. After all she had the right genes (her mother was superstar and movie actress Judy Garland). She became the fashion icon she was with her role in the 1972 movie, Cabaret in which she played the role of the innocent yet gutsy Sally Bowles. Her dramatic over the top makeup, the theatrical bob hair cut, made her the style icon that she deserved to be. For the next decade or so, she was the role to mimic if you wanted a change from the innocent look that was favored on the ramp.

Skin type is basically determined by the working of sebaceous glands on the face. In oily skin type, these glands tend to overwork a little and secrete large amount of sebum on the face. This sebum gives the oily skin its characteristic sheen. If your skin is a little oily and you don’t have much acne problem, then the standard anti aging products available in the market can suit you well. However, if your skin is very oily with heavy acne problem then you’ll have to look for the products that are particularly made for oily skin type.
Ingredients
The main ingredient that you should be looking for while buying anti aging products for oily skin is salicylic acid. Salicylic acid not only minimizes the appearance of wrinkles on the face, but also reduces the oiliness of the skin. Besides, other ingredients like retinol and retinoid also help reduce the wrinkles without damaging the oily skin. Retinol is a non prescription drug whereas retinoid is a prescription drug. If your skin is not very sensitive, then you may also try products with citric acid, glycolic acid and lactic acid, which help in resurfacing of the skin. Anti aging wrinkle cream with glycolic acid as an ingredient is the best anti aging cream for men. More on anti aging face creams.
Formulation
Light formulation works best for oily skin. Go for the anti aging products that are in the form of gel or serum. Although, there is no harm in using lotions, heavy creams should be strictly avoided. Water based anti aging creams are safe to use on oily skin as they do not add oils to the skin. This holds true even while choosing anti aging products for men. More on anti aging skin care for men.
Cosmetics
Opt for the cosmetics that are water based and not oil based. Mineral makeup is best for oily skin as it covers blemishes and reduces the visibility of wrinkles. The finish of the make up should be matte, so as to get rid of the unwanted sheen.

Today, amongst urban clothing designers, there is a perceptive shift toward Generation X – the talent is more youthful and certainly more street savvy. Gen X designers are therefore getting more creative. That’s because they are aware that the urban fashion conscious consumer is equally savvy, taking the best creations of a designer and mixing-and-matching them to create a look all their own.
Hence, the same disaffected youth who used to consider bohemian chic and the grunge look the last word in using clothing as a weapon in the politics of rebellion is beginning to realize that the true sprit of fashion is not just about breaking rules just for the sake of it, but exploring how the rules can relate to the way they see themselves in the world they live in, and how they can be used to express their individuality.
In other words, today’s urban fashion consumers have developed a very sophisticated and mature understanding of how clothing ought to fit and how fashion works. Hence designers, responding to this new maturity in consumers, are designing men’s lines that are actually taking into account how trousers should hang from the waist and reach just above the shoe to create a clean cut. Many urban street fashion companies are including traditional dress shirts and tailored clothing in order to provide something for anybody looking to make a trendy statement.
These are individuals who still like the idea of urban fashion, but may not necessarily be into loud stuff (although the bright colors are also offered alongside). These are the people who are finding new ways to stand out from the crowd by finding new ways to assert themselves by taking the best in denim wear and mixing them with traditional sportswear and chic and cheap labels to create an individualized look.
Here are some suggestions for uber trendy urban fashion clothing:
•Check out graphic t-shirts. Instead of wearing the cliched skulls on tees, t-shirts with complex graphics on them make quite a fashion statement.
•You could try out jeans that have nothing on them – just comfortably fitting jeans which say ‘quality’, and can be worn just about anywhere. Check out monochromatic colors like gray, black or white.
•How about wearing something other than khakis or jeans? Cotton pants can make a statement that is both unique and understated. Team it with an olive green military denim jacket and unostentatious T’s.
•Contradiction is still cool in urban wear. So go ahead, buck the trend, destroy a t-shirt beyond recognition and team it with a nice pair of clean-cut jeans. Or vice versa.
The streets have always been where fashion trends have originated. It’s just a matter of picking up what’s hip. And whatever’s hot on the street will continue paving the way for the urban fashion clothing trends of the future.

This is one of the simplest recipes for making perfume at home. In order to prepare a homemade perfume from flowers, you require some water (2 cups) and some chopped flower petals (2 cups). You may use flowers like, rose, jasmine, sampaguita, honeysuckle, orange blossoms or any other flower with fragrance. Collect the flowers early in the morning or when they are about to open. Flowers with strong fragrance work well for making perfume at home.
•Take a bowl large enough to hold the chopped flowers. Place a piece of cheesecloth over the bowl in such a manner that the edges of the cloth hang outside the rim of the bowl.
•Now, place the chopped flower blossoms inside the bowl and add the water. Cover the bowl and allow it to sit overnight.
•The next morning, hold the edges of the cheesecloth and lift it in the form of a bag. The water in the bowl will have a slight scent. Squeeze the cloth bag, so that the scented water inside it is not wasted.
•Now, take a pan and pour the scented water into it. Place the pan over low heat and simmer, till the pan has three tablespoons of liquid left in it. You can store this homemade perfume in a small glass bottle, for one month.
Homemade Perfume from Flowers – Recipe II
This recipe is also similar to the earlier, but has slight variations. As per this recipe, you need 2 cups of chopped flowers and four cups of distilled water.
•Place the flower petals in a glass bowl with distilled water. You may also opt for the above said cheesecloth method. Cover the bowl and let it sit overnight.
•Next morning, strain the scented water in the bowl to a pan and place it on low heat. Allow the water to simmer, till it get reduced to a few tablespoons. Now, let the concentrated scent cool, before storing in small dark colored sterilized bottles.
•Now add five tablespoons of unscented vodka to the perfume bottle, into which you have to add two tablespoons of concentrated flower scent.
•You may use the perfume after three to four days. Shake the bottle well before use. In case you want to make the perfume milder, add one or two tablespoons of distilled water. If you want it more strong, add a tablespoon of flower scent.
